Is My Report For This
Month
"Play
It Safe With Your Pet"
While dogs should tolerate
some inappropriate or
unexpected human behavior,
they are–well–animals. In
general, avoid bothering
animals in the same
situations where you
wouldn't want to be
bothered, such as when
eating, drinking, resting,
or whenever the pet
indicates that it doesn't
want to interact. Usually,
the pet will signal this
by moving away. More
subtle signs of uneasiness
include lowering the head,
pulling the ears back,
looking away, becoming
tense, raising the lip,
and growing.
When this happens,
avoid yelling or diving
at, hugging, or kissing a
pet or otherwise violating
its personal space.
Parents, in particular,
should watch how their
child interacts with a
pet–especially one that
they do not know well.
Recognize the signs
or situations that
indicate when a pet needs
a break. Pets that haven't
been rewarded enough for
tolerating handling,
especially by kids, are
more likely to react
sooner to bad human
etiquette. Practice
pairing treats with
handling so that the pet
learns that being handled
is a positive experience.

FROM THE DESK OF
LEGAL BEAGLE
Get
Healthier And Save Money By Adopting A
Pet!
A study out of Australia's
University of Queensland reveals that pet
owners spend thousands of dollars less in
medical cost every year than pet free folks!
No wonder: "Research shows pet owners have
lower blood pressure and cholesterol, are
less depressed and have a lower risk of
heart disease," says lead study author
Maggie O'Haire, Ph.D. Research also shows
that when doing something difficult, we
experience less stress if our pets are with
us than if a friend or spouse is present!
